What Moore County actually is, how it is laid out, and how to think about the geography before you choose a town.
One county, many different daily lives
Moore County sits in the Sandhills of North Carolina, roughly halfway between Charlotte and the coast, with Raleigh about an hour and a half northeast. It is best known for golf, but the county is far more varied than the resort image suggests: a walkable historic village, a small downtown with a working main street, lake communities, gated golf neighborhoods, horse country, and genuine farmland—all inside a 30-minute radius.
That variety is the single most useful thing to understand early. Two homes at the same price, ten minutes apart, can produce completely different weeks: one with sidewalks, restaurants, and neighbors on porches, the other quiet, wooded, and car-dependent.
