Overview & local personality

What to understand about Cameron

Cameron is the county's northeastern corner — a tiny historic town best known for its antique shops and its surrounding farmland, with a National Register historic district at its core. Practically speaking, Cameron functions much like Vass: it is close to Fort Bragg's northern side and to the Sanford and Fayetteville corridors, and it offers land at prices the resort side of the county cannot match.

A personal fit

Who Cameron may be right for

May be a fit

  • Fort Bragg families who want land and a short northern-gate commute
  • Buyers who want acreage at the county's lowest price points
  • Antique and historic-home enthusiasts
  • Anyone commuting toward Sanford, the Triangle, or Fayetteville

Potential advantages

  • Close to Fort Bragg's northern access points and to US 1 north
  • Among the most affordable land in Moore County
  • A genuine historic district with a National Register core
  • Quiet, rural, and unhurried

Considerations

  • Municipal rate of $0.555 per $100 on the county rate chart — among the highest listed in Moore County (Robbins is higher)
  • Very few services in town; groceries and dining require a drive
  • Well and septic on most rural property
  • Long school bus routes and longer emergency response times
  • Farthest of the eastern towns from FirstHealth in Pinehurst

Homes & daily logistics

Compare the practical details

Housing styles & general price context

Historic homes in the small downtown district, farmhouses and ranches on acreage, manufactured and modular homes on land, and pockets of newer construction pushing out from the Harnett and Lee county lines. Almost everything outside the town core is on well and septic. Blake's working ranges: modest homes from roughly the $200s, homes on acreage commonly $300s to $500s, restored historic homes and larger farms above that. Field estimates only — acreage and outbuildings drive the number.

Commute considerations

NC 24/27 runs east toward Fort Bragg's Longstreet area and northern gates — drive times vary by address, gate and hour, so map the exact route at your travel time. US 1 north reaches Sanford and the Triangle, and Fayetteville is reachable to the southeast. Southern Pines is about twenty minutes away.

Schools & childcare

Moore County Schools serves Cameron, with Union Pines the high school most northeastern addresses feed. Assignment is by address through the district's online school locator; bus routes here are among the longest in the county. Options in Cameron itself are very limited; most families use providers in Vass, Sanford, or Southern Pines. Verify licensing through the NC DHHS child care facility search.

Healthcare access

FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst is the county referral hospital and a longer drive from Cameron; some residents also use Sanford and Fayetteville facilities. Rural emergency response times are longer than in town.

Parks, recreation & golf

The antique district and the historic downtown are the town's identity, with the Cameron antique street fairs drawing crowds twice a year. Beyond that it is rural recreation: farmland, the Little River, hunting and riding, and Raven Rock State Park to the northeast.

New construction

Building here is mostly one-off custom homes on private land, with some subdivision development near the county lines. As with all rural Moore County land, confirm septic suitability, well water, power, and internet availability before buying a lot.
