Robbins

North county mill town with river access and the lowest prices.

Overview & local personality

What to understand about Robbins

Robbins sits at the north end of Moore County, a former textile mill town on the Deep River surrounded by farmland and forest. It is the most affordable town in the county by a clear margin, and the most rural in feel. Buyers come here for land, for river access, and for a price point that does not exist further south — accepting that Pinehurst, hospitals, and shopping are all a real drive away.

A personal fit

Who Robbins may be right for

May be a fit

  • Buyers whose budget is the deciding factor
  • Land buyers, hunters, and hobby farmers
  • Renovators willing to take on an older home
  • Remote workers who do not commute and want maximum land

Potential advantages

  • The lowest home and land prices in Moore County
  • Deep River access, forest, and genuine rural quiet
  • Close to the Uwharrie National Forest and Seagrove pottery country
  • Small-town community with a long local history

Considerations

  • Longest drives in the county for hospitals, shopping, and jobs
  • Not a practical daily Fort Bragg commute
  • Older housing stock; many homes need significant work
  • Internet and cell service vary sharply by road
  • Smaller school options and long bus routes

Homes & daily logistics

Compare the practical details

Housing styles & general price context

Older mill-era homes and cottages in town, post-war ranches, farmhouses and acreage outside the limits, and manufactured homes on land. Renovation projects are common, and condition varies far more than price does. Blake's working ranges: in-town homes frequently from the $100s to the $200s, homes on acreage in the $200s to $400s, larger farms and river property above that. Field estimates only — condition and land drive the number here more than anywhere else in the county.

Commute considerations

NC 705 and NC 24/27 connect Robbins south toward Carthage and Pinehurst and east toward the Sanford direction. Everything is a drive: Carthage is the nearest town of any size, Pinehurst is well beyond it, and Fort Bragg is not a practical daily commute from here.

Schools & childcare

Moore County Schools serves Robbins, and North Moore is the high school serving the county's north end; assignment is set by address through the district's online school locator. Bus routes are long, and the north-county schools are smaller than Pinecrest or Union Pines. Options are limited; families rely on local in-home providers or drive toward Carthage. Verify licensing and inspection history through the NC DHHS child care facility search.

Healthcare access

FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst is a significant drive from Robbins, and FirstHealth also operates Montgomery Memorial Hospital in Troy to the west. Rural emergency response times are longer — an important factor for older buyers.

Parks, recreation & golf

The Deep River for paddling and fishing, town parks and ball fields, the Uwharrie National Forest to the west for hiking and riding, and the Seagrove pottery community just north — one of the country's densest concentrations of working potters.

New construction

Very little organized new construction; most activity is renovation or one-off custom building on private land. Confirm septic suitability, well water, power, and internet before buying any lot.
