Family Activities and Kids' Sports in Moore County

By Blake Altman · Reviewed October 16, 2026

Moving with kids usually means two questions right away: where will they play, and how do we sign up? In Moore County the answer is mostly town by town. Each town's recreation department runs its own programs, and several community leagues serve players from across the county.

This guide lists the official places to look in the four towns most of my relocating families compare. It doesn't repeat schedules or fees — those change every season — so every section links straight to the department or league that keeps them current.

Verify before you go. Seasons, age cutoffs, fees and registration windows change. Confirm details with the department or league before you plan around them.

Pinehurst

The Village of Pinehurst runs its own Parks & Recreation department. Programs, classes and youth athletics are listed and registered through the Village's online recreation catalog, which is the place to check current seasons, ages and fees.

Southern Pines

Southern Pines Recreation & Parks publishes separate pages for athletics, recreation programs and parks and playgrounds. Registration runs through the Town's online catalog.

Aberdeen

Aberdeen Parks & Recreation lists its own youth athletics, including a youth basketball league for ages 4–15, alongside youth programs. For sports the Town doesn't run itself, its youth-athletics page points families to local organizations: AC Sandhills for soccer, the Sandhills Optimist Club for baseball, and RISEUP for football.

Whispering Pines

Whispering Pines is a smaller village without a large youth-league program of its own. Family life centers on the Village lakes and parks — which are for residents, property owners and their guests — and on community events posted to the Village calendar. Families here typically use the county and neighboring-town leagues for organized sports.

Countywide

Moore County government also publishes a youth-resources page. Many leagues accept players from across the county, so a family in one town often plays in another — ask each league about residency rules before you register.
